Cartography (from Greek χάρτης khartēs, "papyrus, sheet of paper, map "; and γράφειν graphein, "write") is the study and practice of making maps. Eliminate characteristics of the mapped object that are not relevant to the map 's purpose. This is the concern of generalization.
