Fatima apparitions - a series of Marian apparitions recognized by the Catholic Church, taking place in the Portuguese city of Fatima from May 13 to October 13, 1917. Three children of Franciszek and Hiacynta Marto and Łucja dos Santos were witnesses of the apparitions. During the Fatima apparitions, the spectacular Miracle of the Sun was seen by many thousands of people. After examining the events and the content of the apparitions, the Catholic Church found no contradiction to the doctrine and recognized their authenticity in 1930. During these apparitions, Our Lady of Fatima gave the children three Secrets of Fatima, which at first were not made public. Two of them were recorded and made public in 1941 at the behest of the Bishop of Fatima. The third vision (written in 1944) was made public in 2000. Franciszek and Jacinta died shortly after the events described as the experience of revelation. Pope John Paul II beatified both on May 13, 2000, while Pope Francis canonized them on May 13, 2017. Łucja joined the Carmelite Order and died in 2005.
