MARTIN LUTHER. He was a theologian and Augustinian Catholic friar who began and promoted the religious reform in Germany and whose teachings were inspired by the Protestant Reformation and the theological and cultural doctrine called Lutheranism. Luther exhorted the Christian church to return to the original teachings of the Bible, which led to a restructuring of the Christian churches in Europe.
