Reggae - a style in contemporary entertainment music, created in the late 1960s in Kingston, Jamaica. It is the most characteristic genre of Jamaican music. He gained worldwide publicity in the seventies thanks to the work of Bob Marley, although, contrary to popular opinion, he was not the only precursor of the genre. It was formed as a result of a gradual evolution (consisting, among others, of a slower pace) of ska music, through the transitional rocksteady style. Reggae, a rhythmic pattern combining a distinctive bass line and drum beat, is referred to as the riddim. Reggae is especially popular in the Rastafari movement environment.
