White-eared turak [4], white-faced turak (Tauraco leucotis) - a species of medium-sized bird from the family Turakidae (Musophagidae), found in East Africa in the Abyssinian Plateau. Its range covers most of Ethiopia and Eritrea and the eastern border between Sudan and South Sudan [2]. In Europe and North America, it is a bird readily kept in aviaries [5]. Characteristic for this and several related species is the presence of unique pigments in feathers: green turacoverdine and red turacin, unheard of in almost any other animal [6].
