Chestnut vulture [4] (Aegypius monachus) - a species of large scavenger bird from the hawk family (Accipitridae), inhabiting the Iberian and Apennine peninsulas and the Balkans, as well as the mountain ranges of Asia to the Pacific. Even in the nineteenth century, it could nestle in the Tatra Mountains, perhaps also in today's Poland (however, this is not confirmed information, but only assumptions). Certainly, however, smelting individuals were observed several times. Currently, it sporadically appears in the southern regions of the country [5] (in 2011 one specimen was observed in the Nowosądecki poviat, it was the first confirmed finding in Poland since 1982 [6]).
