Occurs on lakes, slow flowing rivers in the tundra in Eurasia and North America. In the tundra it is the most common duck. It is also present on sea islands. It hibernates in the open waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. We spend many winter in the Baltic Sea from October to March. Sometimes it goes inland.
