The breed has been recognized by the FCI. Its origin is not fully documented. The first reports related to white sheepdogs date from the 19th century. In 1882, at the Dog Show in Hanover, a uniformly white, short-haired Shepherd named Greiff (born in 1879) was presented. Unfortunately, currently nothing is known about his ancestors. At the next dog show in 1887, Greiff was accompanied by two daughters, equally white Greiff and Russin.
