Description of the assumption

The Wilanów Garden was created together with the Wilanów Palace in the second half of the 17th century and it was composed with the common axis along with the palace. The central part of the establishment refers to ancient, renaissance and baroque forms and has the character of an Italian garden. Two levels of this garden are divided by a brick wall and connected by steps located on the main axis of the palace, decorated with a stone balustrade decorated with sculptures - allegory of the four seasons and four stages of love : Anxiety, Kiss, Indifference and Zwada. Under the stairs there is an artificial cave and cellars. The upper terrace of the garden was decorated until the mid-18th century by brick gazebos with green and gold roofs.

The garden from Sobieski's time was much smaller than it is today. It was only the subsequent owners of Wilanów that expanded this area and rearranged some of its fragments. The lack of proper maintenance and war damage caused the poor condition of the park and only maintenance work under the supervision of Gerard Ciołek in 1948-1950 and 1960- 1965 restored its splendor.
