This is a representative street of Gdansk, running through the Main Town in the Śródmieście district. Its extension is Długi Targ, with which it forms the so-called The Royal Way. In the eighteenth century it served as a merchant route, with an extension in the form of an oval market square. It was probably then the main road of Gdańsk. After the occupation of Gdańsk by the Teutonic Order, this route became the most important in the entire Main Town.
