The oldest Venetian bridge over the Grand Canal in Italy. It connects the shores of Riva del Vin and Riva del Ferro. The first bridge in the Rialto district was a makeshift bridge arranged on the shoulders. During the reign of Sebastian Ziani or his successor, Oria Mastropiera Nicolò Barattiero, a semi-legendary builder from Lombardy, replaced the existing structure with a bridge built on stilts.
