Claude Monet (born in 1840 in Paris - 1926 in Giverny). French painter, one of the leading representatives of Impressionism. Claude Monet was born in Paris, but spent his childhood in Le Havre, where his family moved. My father wanted his son to take over the family business (grocery store), but Claude decided to become a painter. Initially, he made caricatures of local notables. In 1858, he met Eugène Boudin, a Norman painter, with whom he began to study painting outdoors. Against the will and financial resources of the family, but thanks to the aunt Marie-Jeanne Lecadre, who promised to pay for his studies, Claude began studying at the Académie Suisse in Paris. There he met many esteemed artists, including Camille Pisarra, Frédéric Bazille, Alfred Sisley and Auguste Renoir. In 1863 he left with them to the village of Barbizon, in the vicinity of which a group of landscape painters was active. In 1883, he settled in Giverny, where he wanted to isolate himself from people. The new place was a cure for the depression that affected Monet after losing his wife and financial problems. At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, he became an increasingly well-known and respected artist. This allowed him to earn a decent living. He developed, inter alia, his backyard garden in Giverny, a source of inspiration for so many paintings. After the First World War, Monet suffered a painful deterioration of his eyes, but he constantly painted, perfected and developed his workshop. In his paintings he depicted nature in a unique, spontaneous and vivid style. He touched on a wide range of topics - from urban scenes, extensive landscapes and ending in his beloved garden. Monet tried to capture the essence of what he saw in nature, without any formal restrictions. He died of lung cancer in December 1926.
